Jazz Cathcart || Missional Communities Leader
Jazz

I was born in Charlotte, North Carolina into a home situation marked by the dynamics all too familiar in the “hood”. Fatherlessness, poverty, alcoholism, domestic violence, drug abuse, and brokenness. God radically altered the projection of my life when he sovereignly led my mother to place my twin sister and I in foster care so that she could get on her feet. By God’s kindness, my foster mother began mentoring my biological one. She led her to Christ and began discipling her in the gospel. As the Lord continued changing our lives, he was also shaping my sense of purpose in the world.

When I got to college, a church planter took a particular interest in me and began mentoring me, inviting me to dream God sized dreams for his glory. In that same season, I met a young lady with a radical passion for Christ and the looks of a super-model named Maggie. She had uprooted her life to be a part of the community that helped launch my mentor’s church plant, Highland Christian Church in downtown Asheville, NC. God decided to be unreasonably gracious to me and gave her to be my wife. We tied the knot and signed the pre-nup one year after I graduated in 2007 with a degree in Christian Education. Ok, there was no pre-nup but we did get hitched and I’m still thanking God for it. Preciate that Lord!

After graduating I began working with inner city youth in Asheville, becoming the executive director of the I Have a Dream Foundation in 2009 while also serving at Highland in different and growing capacities. In 2011 I was ordained and served as an associate pastor while continuing to direct the IHAD Foundation.

In the midst of incredible ministry and fruit for the kingdom, I sensed God calling me to pursue church planting and to prepare to be a lead pastor. Through much prayer and wise counsel, the wifey and I sold our house and moved to Atlanta to prepare for the next season of our lives. I am completing a church planting residency here at Blueprint while also completing a master’s of arts in Church Planting and Evangelism through Liberty University Theological Seminary. I am privileged to serve as the Membership and Missional Communities Leader and am blessed to serve the body at such an incredible church.
